How to create your dream life.
"First say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to do." Epictetus (Discourses 3.23)
TL;DR: Follow your passion and put intentional effort behind what know you need to do to get to the position you want to be in.
Why is it that most people don't achieve their dreams? Why is it that society expects us to grow out of our dreams and focus on their vision of success?
In this article I intend to explore what it means to achieve your dream life and practical advice to achieve it.
THE CONCEPT OF A DREAM LIFE
What do you want in life? Do you want Lamborghini, 3 houses on the beach in different parts of the world, and a personal assistant. Or would you enjoy life more driving a Prius, arriving to a nice cozy home after work and reading a nice book.
This is something before moving forward that you must define. I don't mean writing down what you want in general terms. Take the time to describe exactly what life you want, to the exact model of car you want to drive, the exact address of the home you want to own, and the fabric you want to wearing.
I know this may be a lot to think about, therefore I will give you a solid foundation of questions to gauge more of the life you might want.
5 questions to define your dream life:
- From the time you wake up to the time you fall asleep what would a regular day look like?
- If money wasn't an issue, how would you spend most of your time and who would you spend it with?
- What kind of work makes you feel truly proud of yourself?
- When people talk about you in 10 years, what do you want them to be saying?
Note: This requires practice of visualization, the more you practice visualization your life the more vivid it becomes.
Here are my personal answers to these questions.
I would wake up at 7:30 in the morning in some part of the world (San Diego, Cancun, Miami, Hawaii, Punta Cana, Bali, Saint-Tropez... basically any place that tropical, sunny and has really nice beaches) get ready for the day by taking a warm shower with a dove soap bar and then walking my dog. I would then ride my bike for 1-2 hours doing between 15-30 miles at a moderate pace while listening to a self-development/business podcast. Then once I came back. I'd drive my Lamborghini Urus to go grab cafe de olla and chilaquiles and spend some time getting work done for 2-3 hours, this work would consist of creating content, writing, and managing a digital business. I would then grab some lunch with a group of friends that make more money than me and talk about our progress toward our goals. I'd then go to gym near the beach for about an hour then swim the open waters for a while, of course with my girlfriend and the dog. I would then have some dinner, head home, shower, walk the dog then i'd spend more time working. After that around 8-9pm i'd watch a show or movie then fall asleep at around 11 at night.
If money wasn't an issue id spend most of my time on long terms travel on tropical islands driving fast cars with my girlfriend and family.
The work that makes me feel truly proud of myself is related to personal development, whether exercising, creating a video, or researching to build plans that would further my development.
When people talk about me in 10 years, I would like them to say, "I seen him start from nothing and now he's made it, why am I not where he is?" and find the inspiration to strive for better.
Now that we've figured out what you're dream life looks like, it's time to plan.
The next step is to backwards plan. With any venture of life it is important to plan out exactly how you're going to get there and cover your bases, thus setting contingencies.
Typically it is important to work in 5 year chunks and workout each year, month, then day from there.
This 5 year plan will include the following:
- Vision statement - 1 line to define the essence of the your dream life
- Career - the business you'd operate or career you'd work
- Finance - your net worth, assets, and liabilities
- Health - diet, percent body fat, msucle mass
- Skills - degrees, skills you want to achieve.
- Personal Growth - do you want to be more confident, personable (attach this to a measure... for example, be able to go up to anyone and talk to them)
Everyhing should be measurable and formatted in the following sentence structure.
By [DATE] I will achieve [ACHIEVEMENT] through [TASK/SOURCE].
BREAKING THIS DOWN.
Now that we've got this completed, we'll break it down into 1 year chunks. The goal is that we identify what we need to work on for every year and each incremental year we build upon our foundations in year 1 till we achieve our dream life.
Year 1 - Foundation
This year will be dedicating to learning, building habits/systems and investing your time and money into programs that you need to succeed. Finding out what works and doesn't work, you should be in exploration mode, trying and failing things left and right.
Year 2 - Growth
This year will be dedicated to building upon your learned skills, increasing your income and making changes where you see fit. Since you'll have systems that work at this you want to see how can grow further in that field whether in quantity or quality.
Year 3 - Optimization
This year will be dedicated to cutting back a bit and optimizing your systems assuming the 80/20 rule holds true.
Year 4 - Automate
This year will be dedicated to automating any systems that you can, you should have enough capital to minimize any pain points that you notice.
Year 5 - Am I done?
Once you're winning, you'll want more, it's human nature. This year will be spent developing a plan to win the next 5 years.
Each year consist of 12 months, each month will have it's own goals that you will define. There should be 2-5 things on this list and no more because it's important we achieve these.
This is my list for the next year - 2025:
- Test drive 10 supercars
- Travel 2 month outside the U.S. this year
- 165 lbs at 12% bf
- 100k followers on all platforms
- Generate 300k in income
This is my list for the next month - February:
- Test drive/rent 1 supercar
- Book travel for march for 1-2 weeks
- Land 5 interviews
- JUST POST!!!
- Bulk up to 170 lbs
If we break this down even further into days this would be:
Once:
- Spend a day looking at travel destinations that look interesting and find the best cost effective stay. Book the flight and hotel
- Spend some time looking at Turo to see what supercar I want to drive. Noting how that vehicle drove and how I liked it.
Everyday:
- Post at least 1 short form video per day on Tiktok, Instagram, and Youtube
- Apply to 20 jobs per day
- Go to gym and workout
- Eat in a calorie surplus
When we breakdown these goals into everyday tasks they become very realistic.
I hope this information has helped all those that want to achieve great things in this life.
